These terms explain the ground rules for using this site and joining the experiment.

What this project is
Retire My Parents is a personal crowdfunding project and social experiment, not a charity. Contributions are voluntary, begin at $1, are not tax-deductible charitable donations, and do not provide equity, ownership, repayment, or any financial return.
Where the money goes
Money contributed through this project is given directly to the creator’s parents. It is not a purchase of a product or service.
No guaranteed outcome
No particular result is promised. One million participants, $1 million, published milestones, and retirement are goals or possibilities, not guarantees. The project may still be meaningful without reaching any specific number.
One Million Lights
Each completed participant contribution generally corresponds to one light, regardless of amount. Public totals and light numbers may be corrected when necessary for technical errors, duplicate records, refunds, fraud, or chargebacks. A participant’s name or location is displayed only when they authorize it.
Payments and fees
Stripe processes payments. Any payment-processing fee coverage is voluntary, and the total charge is shown before payment. Contributions are generally final, but refund requests may be reviewed individually. Transactions affected by fraud, chargebacks, or processing errors may be cancelled or corrected.
Acceptable use
Do not misuse the site, interfere with its operation, attempt unauthorized access, submit unlawful or abusive material, impersonate someone else, or use automated systems to overwhelm its forms or services.
Content you submit
You retain ownership of content you submit. When you explicitly submit content for public display, you grant Retire My Parents permission to display, format, and share it in connection with the project. Inappropriate, unlawful, misleading, or harmful content may be declined or removed.
No professional advice
Nothing on this site is financial, tax, legal, or investment advice. Consider your own circumstances before contributing.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Retire My Parents and its creator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss arising from use of the site or participation in the project. Nothing here excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.
